SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Diversity in RosedaleThe Rosedale Civic Association Scholarship Program is named in honor of the long-time Rosedale resident and community leader George W. Wien, who is soon to be 93 years old.

Established in 1990, this Scholarship program promotes the importance of Civic Mindedness and Community Service.

Each year, U.S. Saving Bond (s) in the amount of $200.00 are allocated to each one of Rosedale’s six (6) elementary schools. In order to fully safeguard the actual integrity of the student selection process, the officers of the Board of the Rosedale Civic Association have no role in the selection of the scholarship winners.

The faculty of the senior class in each school is expected to select one graduating student, on the basis of assessed active participation or leadership role in an area of community service for the $200.00 U. S. Savings Bond.

In special situations where there are two equally eligible students in the opinion of the school officials, the two co-winners receive each a $100.00 U.S. Savings Bond.

Beginning in 2000, the scholarship winner(2) must be Rosedale resident(s), and since the February 2001 resolution of the Board of Governors, each school must also provide a written justification on school stationary outlining succinctly what each designated student winner has specifically done or accomplished.

The participating six schools have been P.S. 38/ The Rosedale School, St. Claire School, Christ Lutheran School, P.S. 138, St. Pius X School, and P. S. 195/ The William Haberle School .
