In addition to the annual George W. Wien Scholarship Program for the eligible students in the graduating class of each one of Rosedale’s 6 elementary schools, the Rosedale Civic Association has been assisting youth in several ways.
It
has annually sponsored a team in the Rosedale Little League, supported
the numerous youth activities of organized block associations, and funded
totally or partially children’s trip to other parts of New York State,
Northern New Jersey or Southern Connecticut.. During the 1900’s when
the Rosedale Sports Groups were experiencing severe financial difficulties,
the Board of Governors of the Civic Association approved direct financial
support in the form of payment for items such as uniforms, equipment
or miscellaneous supplies for the Rosedale Youth Soccer Club and the
Rosedale Youth Football Club. That financial support continued until
these two organizations begin receiving their own grants or as they
become financially stable.
Furthermore, the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors has been very proactive in the identification of early potential problems, and has been meeting with the leadership of the 105th Precinct for the development of strategies to protect Rosedale children, adolescents and young adults from the dangers of “gang” culture.
.The Rosedale Civic Association sponsors and totally funds Special Fairs on health, community and youth issues. It has been very supportive of the excellent work being done by the Boy Scout Program in Rosedale.
There are plans to organize annual Essay Contest (s) on Youth Leadership in areas such as Business, Community Preservation, Entrepreneurship, Sports Development, Preparation for Professions or Technical Careers and Political Activism.
